40. “Torture”
Spooky Mansion
Alright

Weird backstory: the band was formed to play a gig at Owen Wilson's 45th birthday party. Channels late 70's Jagger here.

39. “Never Be the Same”
Camila Cabello
Camila

38. “Majesty”
Nicki Minaj feat. Eminem and Labrinth
Queen

An incredibly frustrating song in that it is gifted with a catchy hook and an impressive 5-part verse from Eminem and yet every time it is Nicki's turn at the mic the production grounds to a murky halt.
"that's why Tribe is so vital / we need Q-tip for the culture"

37. “Brace”
Twin Shadow
Caer

36. “One Up (remix)”
Yella Beezy feat. Lil Baby
Ain't No Going Bacc

35. “Chain Link Fence”
The Go! Team
SEMICIRCLE

The song farts around for a bit but hits its stride starting at 1:35 when it builds into the classic retro 70's sound the Go! Team occasionally nails.

34. “Nice For What”
Drake
Scorpion

33. “I Don't Want”
Santigold
I Don't Want: The Gold Fire Sessions

32. “Life in Pink”
Kate Nash
Yesterday Was Forever

31. “Girls Go Wild”
LP
Heart to Mouth

30. “Pray For Me”
The Weeknd feat. Kendrick Lamar
Black Panther OST

29. “Sesame Syrup”
Cigarettes After Sex

28. (tie) 4th Dimension and The Rage
KIDS SEE GHOSTS / Kid Cudi
KIDS SEE GHOSTS / Rampage OST

A bit of a cheat, but two different songs by two different monikers that deserve to make the list. Why did it take this long to sample "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"?

27. “Look Up Child”
Lauren Daigle
Look Up Child

Calling Lauren Daigle the "Christian music Adele" is pretty obvious. It's also eerily accurate.

26. “Wonderland”
CHVRCHES
Love is Dead
25. “Heaven's Gate”
Burna Boy feat. Lily Allen
Outside

#25 is the mirror image of our #52 this year
24. “Cold in the Summer”
Dan Mangan
More or Less

23. “utopia”
Lykke Li
so sad so sexy

22. “Never Fall in Love
Jack Antonoff & MØ
Ego / Half-Light

The highest ranking of our seven soundtrack songs this year, which is almost certainly a record for this list
21. “Wu Tang Forever”
Logic feat. the entire Wu Tang Clan*
YSIV

Probably the best the full crew has sounded since ... 1997's Wu Tang Forever? Logic's verse is fine, but it is too bad they couldn't have pulled this off on a standalone track. Method Man stands out in the keystone spot.

* Other than ODB (RIP), who got a writing credit. And the KRZA.
